-- use the sample research paper in the Casebook, pp.21-27, as a guide for MLA formatting as well (remember that the sample research paper is single-spaced, and that yours must be double-spaced). Pay special attention to the sample Works Cited page on p.27 of the Casebook.
-- bring a sample draft of your research paper to class to look over in peer groups.
-- bring your Research Paper to class to turn in. We will have a brief in-class activity as well.

-- have read in the Holt Handbook pp. 737-42 (53d Writing on Poetry), 743-48 (53e example paper), and in Making Arguments pp.127-32 (Elements of Poetry) and the "SUmming Up" box on pp.136-37
-- have read and be ready to discuss Shakespeare's Sonnet 116 "Let me not to the marriage of true minds" in Making Arguments, pp345-346.
-- have read and ready to discuss Walt WHitman's "When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer" (M 333) and Matthew Arnold's "Dover Beach" (M 662-63)
