    Have read, taken notes on, and be ready to discuss:
    -- M pp.93-109 (elements of fiction)
    -- "Writing on Fiction" in collection 2 library course reserve, or online PDF
    -- in Casebook Sarah Orne Jewett's story "A White Heron" (pp.29-35)
    -- to help with the short story and for class discussion, print out the guidesheet (printable PDF) and fill out as you read the story

  • for MONDAY March 6

    On your own, read in WR 6a pp.21-24, 21a & 21b pp.180-183, 22b & 22c pp.186-190, "MLA style" pp.229-230 & pp.241-243 (example MLA-style page & Works Cited)
    -- have read also all the critical essays on the story in the Casebook for us to discuss in class, and to prep you for your research paper project, and for the annotated bibliography due next week
    -- to help with the critical essays, be sure to read them in the order listed on the "Jewett Criticism Help" sheet handout (here's a PDF version of it)

  • for WEDNESDAY March 8 --

    So we can begin to discuss the research paper
    -- have read in WR "thesis statement" pp. 29-33, 42-61, 90-93, 185
    -- see in Casebook the example research paper, pp.21-27.

  • on THURSDAY March 9
    -- final draft of Essay #1 due, to my office (Holloway 344), by 4 p.m. Double check that you've followed all requirements set out in the assignment (see Essay 1 site)
    --be sure to submit a copy of your final draft electronically to turnitin.com no later than 9 p.m. tonight

  • Annotated bibliography of critical essays on Jewett's "A White Heron" due in class MONDAY March 13
