    -- be sure to have these items read and your thematic/topical sheets filled out for today and Wednesday -- after some comments from me, I'm turning over the class to you all and letting you lead your own discussion while I sit back and marvel at your brilliance.
    -- start your reading of material for Friday early, since there's a good deal of material to cover.

  • for WEDNESDAY April 13

    -- we'll finish our (your) discussion of Baldwin's short story "Sonny's Blues" (pp.1728-49)

  • for FRIDAY April 15

    -- have read historical background material on the Black Arts Movement (N pp.1831-50)
    -- have read and be ready to discuss bio notes on Hoyt Fuller (pp.1852-53) and his essay "Towards a Black Aesthetic" (pp.1853-59)
    -- have read and be ready to discuss bio notes on Larry Neal (N pp.2038-39) and his essay "The Black Arts Movement" (pp.2039-50); pay special attention to Fuller and Neal's essays, since they not only offer 1960s images of the Black artist, but also mention and quote several such writers.
