• Papers: Asking you for seven papers was unrealistically ambitious. Instead, there will be FOUR (4) papers due. Each will go through two revisions, as we have already done. Each paper counts as 20% of your grade.
  *Proviso*: each one of you will be given the opportunity, near the end of the semester, to take your LOWEST GRADED PAPER and revise it one more time.

• Class participation: This category combines the previous "Class Participation" guidelines (see that subheading on the old Class Policies sheet/screen) with the additions of your vocabulary quizzes, reaction papers, e-mail (assignments/general use of it), as well as your overall effort. "Effort" here does not constitute simply doing your assignments (as in "But Mr.M, I worked on this for *two* whole *hours*!") or revisions. Rather, effort also entails the difference in quality from draft to draft of a paper; either scheduling conference time or going to the Writing Lab (TUR 2119) if you think you need help with a paper; and showing more than passing or average interest in your own work throughout the semester. All this material counts as a collective 20% of your grade.

(II) VISION

As I mentioned to each of you during your conference, I would like this class to go in a slightly different direction than it has -- namely, YOURS. To this end, I expect increased input from each of you about the class. If you have suggestions, suggest them; if questions, ask them; if concerns or complaints, voice them. You can reach me either before class, after class, during regular (or specially scheduled) office hours, and via e-mail.
